Padrón is celebrating, not only for its Pascuilla, which ends this Sunday 27th April, but also because, a month ago, it received the highest distinction of the network “Pueblos Mágicos de España”, the organisation that brings together municipalities that stand out for their heritage, cultural and natural value. From Hotel Scala, we invite you to rediscover our town this May 1st long weekend!
Padrón is an essential part of the Xacobeo. It is the place, called “Iria Flavia” in the past, where the remains of St. James the Apostle arrived from Palestine. That is why our first stop is the church that takes his name, the same spot where centuries ago the boat with the body of the saint was moored, specifically, in the Pedrón, a Roman altar dedicated to the god Neptune.
In fact, we encourage you to do the Pedronía Route, which accredits the Way of St. James to Padrón, recalling the Traslatio of the preacher's remains. With 26 km, start your walk from the Plaza del Obradoiro in Compostela and sleep in our accommodation to have a rest before exploring all that the town of Padrón has to offer.
Our town left a very important mark on universal literature. That's why you can't miss the Rosalía de Castro House-Museum, where you can learn all the secrets of the home of the promoter of the Rexudimento Galego! And as it's all about writers, the Camilo José Cela Foundation (winner of the 1989 Nobel Prize for Literature) is also must-see.
In your morning adventure you cannot miss the Bridge of Santiago, the Fountain and the Convent do Carme, with a beautiful panoramic view and the Santiaguiño do Monte, where the evangelist is still worshipped in the hermitage. You're sure to start to feel your guts rumbling as soon as you arrive, so take the opportunity to sample the best flavours at the Brandal Restaurant, ideal for special occasions.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy a walk in the Área Fluvial do Espolón, on the banks of the river Sar, where you will find monuments to the illustrious literary figures of Padrón. A market with local products is held in this area on Sundays. Let yourself be carried away by the noise and browse among the stands before exploring the Botanical-Artistic Garden, a natural wonder in the city centre.
If you want to put the finishing touch to your stay in Padrón, you must make a reservation at our Asador O Pazo, with a Michelin star and two Repsol Suns. The sea, the land and the Galician fire are mixed in this sophisticated, rigorous and demanding gastronomic proposal of the Vidal brothers. An unforgettable gourmet experience, always with a quality service and product.
